Abstract:
Honor killings are a specific type of violence with a long history that is conducted against someone who is thought to have done something to bring disgrace or dishonor to the community. Social factors like patriarchal standards, caste systems, fear of social judgement, and ideas of family honour are what fuel this deeply ingrained social problem.
This essay examines the social factors that lead to honour killings in India and describes the various techniques used to carry them out. This paper also emphasiz es how the media shapes popular perceptions and attitudes about honour killings. Several significant instances of honour killing and It focuses on the significance of community involvement, education, awareness campaigns, and legal reforms in preventing ho nour killings and promoting long lasting social change.
