Keywords: Bhima-Koregaon Case, Gautam Navlakha,

The Bombay High Court on Monday requested the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) answer to activist Gautam Navlakha’s bail application in the Elgar Parishad Maoist connections case.

Mr. Navlakha’s petition will be heard on June 28 by a division bench comprising Justices AS Gadkari and SG Dige. The bench also ordered the activist’s lawyers to verify that all dates related to the case are appropriately recorded, as the special NIA court considered his bail application twice.

The special court denied Mr. Navlakha bail in April of this year, observing that there was prima facie evidence that the activist was an active member of the banned organization CPI (Maoist). Mr. Navlakha claimed in his high court appeal that the special court erred in refusing him bail.[1]

The activist, who was jailed in August 2018, was granted house arrest by the Supreme Court in November of last year. He is currently residing in Navi Mumbai’s Thane district. Gautam Navlakha is appealing to the Supreme Court for regular bail for the second time.
