Once you have decided to pursue law as a career, the first thing you need to do is get a degree in the subject. In India, you can join either a 5-year integrated course or a 3-year course. A three-year LLB degree program provides students with a bachelor’s degree in the core subjects of law. In contrast, a five-year LLB is a law degree offered along with a bachelor’s degree from arts, humanities, commerce, science, or engineering program. For a 3 year LLB program, students need to have a minimum qualification that is a bachelor’s degree with an aggregate of 45% marks and For a 5-year LLB course, aspirants need to meet the minimum qualification that should have passed 12th class with a minimum aggregate of 50% marks.
Law schools take admissions based on your 12th Marks and also on the basis on Entrance Exams both of national level or their private entrance exams.
Exams for entrance in 5-year Integrated Course
Law entrance exams are conducted both on national level and state level. You can opt to appear for either of them or for both of them.
CLAT (Common Law Admission Test)
The consortium of NLUs conduct this law entrance exam for admission in 5-year integrated LL.B. course and for one-year LL.M. course. Through CLAT you can get admitted in National Law Universities. In addition, CLAT is also accepted in many private universities.
AILET (All India Law Entrance Test)
This is the only exam conducted and accepted by NLU Delhi. They offer both UG and PG Course
LSAT India
This exam is conducted by the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for admission to undergraduate as well as postgraduate law schools in India.
SLAT or SET Law
This entrance exam is conducted by SIU Pune – Symbiosis International (Deemed University) for admission in four law colleges, Symbiosis Law School (SLS) Pune, SLS Noida, SLS Hyderabad and SLS Nagpur.
MH CET Law Exam
This exam is conducted for both 5-year integrated and 3-year law courses offered at Maharashtra state universities and law colleges. It is conducted by Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell) Maharashtra.
AMU BA.LL.B.
This exam is conducted by Aligarh Muslim University for admission in 5-year integrated law course.
ILSAT (IFCAI Law School Admission Test)
This is conducted by IFCAI Law School for admission in undergraduate law course. The students appearing in CLAT and LSAT India are exempted from appearing in ILSAT Exam.
ULSAT (UPES Legal Studies Aptitude Test)
This exam is conducted by University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) Law School for admission in 3-year course and 5-year integrated course.
CUSAT CAT
This Common Admission Test is conducted by Cochin University of Science and Technology for admission to various programmes viz. Engineering, Environmental Studies, Humanities, Law, Marine Sciences, Medical Sciences & Technology, Science, Social Sciences and Technology.
TS LAWCET
Telangana Law Common Entrance Test is conducted by Osmania University for admission in their 3-year and 5-year integrated courses.
AP LAWCET
LAWCET exam is conducted for admission to 3-year and 5-year LLB courses offered at the AP state law colleges.
KLEE
Kerala Law Entrance Exam (KLEE) is an entrance exam held for admission in government law colleges and government merit seats in private self-financing law colleges. The law courses for which KLEE is held are 3 years LLB, 5 years LLB and LLM.
Calcutta University BA.LL.B
It is a common law entrance exam for admission to integrated LLB programmes offered by Calcutta University and its 12 affiliated colleges.
Exams for entrance in 3-year LL.B. Course
DU LL.B.
This exam is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission in Faculty of Law, Delhi University 3-year LL.B programs.
MH CET
This exam is conducted by Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell) Maharashtra for admission in Maharashtra State Universities and Law Colleges.
BHU UET
Banaras Hindu University Undergraduate Entrance Test (BHU UET) is conducted by NTA on behalf of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). It is a common entrance test held at the national level for admission to UG courses offered at BHU.
PU LL.B.
This exam is conducted by Panjab University for admissions to three-year LLB courses offered at its Department of Law and constituent colleges.
AU LAT
This exam is conducted by Allahabad University for admission in its 3-year law courses.
