In response to a defamation lawsuit brought by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, a Delhi court on Thursday issued a summons to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.[1]
Gehlot was ordered to appear in court on August 7 in response to Shekhawat’s charge that Gehlot had defamed him by making comments about the alleged Sanjivani fraud. The case was filed with Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal of the Rouse Avenue Court, Delhi.
The Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society is accused of defrauding hundreds of investors of roughly Rs 900 crore in this case.
Shekhawat claims in his suit that Gehlot has been making “defamatory remarks” about him in relation to the alleged scheme and has been attempting to damage his reputation and jeopardies his political career.
In March of this year, the Union Minister filed a court petition with the Rouse Avenue Court, alleging that the chief minister had slandered him and falsely accused him of being complicit in the Rs. 900 crore Sanjivani Credit Society scandal.
