In the Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand, a local court handed down a verdict today, sentencing 10 individuals to 10 years in prison. The charges against them were based on Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code, specifically for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This case pertains to the lynching of Tabrez Ansari in 2019.

Last month, the Court of Additional District Judge-I, Amit Shekhar, convicted all the accused in the case. Today, the court announced the duration of their punishment. Additionally, a fine of Rs 15,000 has been imposed on each of the convicts: Bhim Singh Munda, Kamal Mahato, Madan Nayak, Atul Mahali, Sunamo Pradhan, Vikram Mandal, Chamu Nayak, Prem Chand Mahali, and Mahesh Mahali.

On June 18, 2019, Tabrez Ansari, a 24-year-old individual, was subjected to a violent attack by a mob. Accused of motorcycle theft, he was beaten with rods. Subsequently, the mob handed him over to the police, who then placed him in judicial custody following a medical examination. However, three days later, Ansari was admitted to a hospital where he unfortunately passed away during the course of his treatment.
