Security Council to compel Israel to resume negotiations concerning the conflict in Gaza, expressing his disappointment with the international community’s failure to intervene and put an end to the ongoing heinous crimes against innocent civilians, particularly women and children.

Sheikh Tamim stated that Qatar is actively engaged in efforts to reconcile with both parties involved in the agreement. In his words, “We are continuously striving to renew the truce and alleviate the suffering of the people in the Gaza Strip. However, it is important to note that truces should not serve as a substitute for a comprehensive ceasefire.” Israel initiated its attack with the objective of eradicating Hamas in response to a cross-border assault on October 7th, where militants reportedly killed 1,200 individuals and took 240 hostages according to Israeli records. Throughout the course of eight weeks of conflict, the Gaza health ministry reported that a minimum of 15,899 Palestinians, with 70% being women or individuals under the age of 18, have lost their lives. In November, the United Nations Security Council, consisting of 15 member states, successfully overcame an impasse and issued a call for urgent and prolonged humanitarian pauses in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, with the aim to allow access to aid for a “sufficient number of days.”

It is disgraceful that the international community has allowed this atrocious crime to persist for nearly two months, during which the systematic and intentional killing of innocent civilians, including women and children, continues,” he stated.

Qatar’s foreign ministry stated that the purpose of Tuesday’s summit in Doha was to establish a unified approach to end the conflict in Gaza among the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries – Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. Majed Al Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s foreign ministry, told Al Jazeera, “It is now imperative to discuss a sustainable ceasefire that could bring an end to this war.” According to Israeli reports, Israel launched its military offensive to eliminate Hamas as a response to a cross-border attack on October 7, in which militants killed 1,200 people and took 240 hostages.
