In a case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the purported excise policy scam, a Delhi court on Thursday prolonged Manish Sisodia’s judicial custody until December 22. Sisodia is a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a former deputy chief minister of Delhi.
On Thursday, Sisodia appeared in person before the Rouse Avenue court. On December 22, the case will be heard by the court. According to the prior ruling, hard and soft copies of the second supplemental chargesheet for certain accused parties have been duly provided, the court was informed.
Sisodia’s bail requests in corruption and money-laundering cases about the Delhi liquor policy case were denied by the Supreme Court last month. While dictating its ruling, the Supreme Court refused his respite and stated that a money trail totaling Rs 338 crore had been “tentatively established” in the case.
On February 26, 2023, Sisodia was taken into custody by the CBI on charges that he had favored private alcoholic beverage corporations in the creation and execution of Delhi’s new excise laws.
Sisodia was detained in March 2023 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which looks into allegations of money laundering. According to the ED, Sisodia was given preferential treatment under the excise regime, which was abandoned in September 2022 due to accusations of corruption, in return for bribes from liquor companies.
Additionally, Manish Sisodia’s judicial detention in the ED case was extended by the Rouse Avenue court on Tuesday until December 11. The investigating agency has not yet submitted several documents on behalf of the defendant, the court noted.
