Former Chief Justice of India UU Lalit has been appointed as a member of the panel of arbitrators at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). Justice Lalit served as the 49th Chief Justice of India and was the second direct appointee from the Bar to have held this position. He enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa as an advocate in June 1983, qualified as an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court in 1992, and was designated as a Senior Advocate of the apex court in 2004. 

SIAC is a global arbitral institution that offers case management services to parties from around the world. Its arbitration awards have been enforced in many jurisdictions, including Australia, China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Thailand, the UK, the USA, and Vietnam, among other New York Convention signatories. The Board of Directors and Court of Arbitration at SIAC comprise lawyers and professionals from different parts of the world. 

The Board has the responsibility of overseeing SIAC’s operations, business strategy and development, as well as corporate governance matters. The Court of Arbitration is responsible for appointing arbitrators and supervising the overall case administration at SIAC. 

Recently, Cyril Shroff, Managing Partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, was appointed as a Director to SIAC’s Board, while Vijayendra Pratap Singh, Head of the Dispute Resolution practice and Senior Partner at AZB & Partners, was appointed as a member of SIAC’s Court of Arbitration. Harish Salve and Darius Khambata, both Senior Advocates and Tejas Karia, Disputes Head and Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas, were re-appointed as members of SIAC.
