Chandigarh, September 11 – The Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA) achieved remarkable success during its 3rd National Lok Adalat, held across 22 districts and 34 sub-divisions of the state on September 9, 2023. This event marked a significant milestone in the realm of alternative dispute resolution.
A total of 1,51,834 cases were taken up during the National Lok Adalat, and an astonishing 1,22,969 cases were successfully resolved at the pre-litigation stage, amounting to an impressive sum of Rs. 774,056,9479 settled. In addition to this, 2,60,518 pending cases were addressed, with 1,91,247 of them decided upon, resulting in the settlement of Rs. 178,218,1436.
In total, 3,14,216 cases across various categories, including civil, criminal, matrimonial, bank recovery, motor accident claims tribunal (MACT), petty offenses, summary cases, traffic challans, and cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, were resolved, with a cumulative settlement amounting to a staggering Rs. 952,275,0915. This achievement marked a record for the highest number of cases settled in a National Lok Adalat in Haryana.
The National Lok Adalat served as a platform to address a diverse range of cases and promote amicable dispute resolution, reaffirming its significance as an effective alternative dispute resolution method. The event was closely monitored by Justice Arun Palli, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman of HALSA, along with Subhas Mehla, Member Secretary, and Kavita Kamboj, Joint Member Secretary. The participation and efforts of judicial officers, bank officials, representatives from insurance companies, bar members, court support staff, and other stakeholders were acknowledged and appreciated. It was emphasized that Lok Adalat plays a pivotal role in achieving social harmony by resolving disputes to the satisfaction of all parties involved.
The success of the 3rd National Lok Adalat highlights HALSA’s commitment to providing an efficient and cost-effective platform for resolving disputes and underscores the importance of alternative dispute resolution methods in the legal landscape.
