A horrifying series of coordinated bombings took place on 11 July,2006 in Mumbai trains during the evening rush hours. It took a tool of nearly 200 lives and across 700 injuries.

Seven blasts took place in 11 minutes in the first class train compartments. The commuters were businessmen, government employees, college students, etc. The terrorist organisation Lashkar e- Qahhar took the responsibility for this incident. In forensic reports, it was found that the bombs contained highly explosive RDX and ammonium Nitrate. 

Around 15 people were arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA).

 Bombay High Court, on Wednesday, slammed the State Government and criticised it for its failure to appoint a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) for hearings of the case. The Court further said that it is shocked to see that the Government is not serious regarding such grievous matters. The bench comprising Justices Nitin Sambhe and Rajesh Patil asked the state to solve this issue by 8th September,2023. 

Earlier it was Senior Advocate Raja Thakare who was the SPP for the State Government but due to his disinclination, the State has continuously sought adjournment in earlier hearings. 

After 8 years of trial, 12 accused were convicted out of which 5 were sentenced to death by a Special Court under MCOCA. Out of those 5 one died in 2021 and the remaining have filed appeals challenging the order. 

This haunting incident has left a deep mark in the lives of people and a widespread panic.
