This Friday the Bombay High Court rejected to give any interim relief to the Republic TV in the trademark infringement suit filed by its parent company, ARG outlier.

This suit was brought before the court in March, where ARG outlier contended that a Telugu channel RTV News is illegally copying its “R” logo. The suit contended the unfair trade practice by RTV’s company, RAYADU VISION MEDIA, and sought  ₹100 crore for damages.

Justice Manish Pitale, while hearing the case refused to grant any Immediate Injunction for the use of the “R”  logo by RTV news as it was held that Republic TV has still not proven anything on which it could be said that RTV logo is deceptively similar. It was also held that in the absence of interim relief, the Republic TV might not suffer any grave loss.

REPUBLIC TV CONTENTIONS:

Republic TV alleged that around February YouTube channels named RTV were copying their trademark with using their “R” logo. It was contended that Republic TV has been using this logo since 2016 with 3 news channels running across different languages.

RTV’s CONTENTIONS:

Opposing the allegations Rayadu Vision Media contended that, they were using RTV logo from 2007 approved by the I&B ministry and the name of their channel came from the owner’s family.

The dismissal was made in an open court and a copy of the order will be issued soon.
