Srinagar’s Principal Sessions Judge, Jawad Ahmed, convicted them under sections 326-A, 120-B, and 201 of the Ranbir Penal Code.

The court noted that the prosecution successfully proved the charges against the accused with a high level of certainty.

Consequently, the court found both individuals guilty. The next hearing on August 19 will determine the sentencing for the two convicts. The acid attack against the law student took place on December 11, 2014, leading to the registration of a criminal case at Soura police station in Srinagar.

The inquiry uncovered that Irshad had been persistently stalking the victim and had previously proposed to her. When she declined his proposal, he allegedly carried out the acid attack. Irshad collaborated with his friend, Mohammad Omar, to plan and execute the attack, as determined by the police.

The incident sparked strong disapproval from different segments of society. Following the event, divisional authorities instructed Deputy Commissioners to impose restrictions on acid sales.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court issued a directive on December 17, 2014, instructing the government to offer ₹3 lakh as compensation to the survivor of the acid attack.
