The former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) leader, Manish Sisodiya was denied the interim medical bail which he pleaded on the grounds that his wife’s health condition is deteriorating[1] for which he needs to be with her currently for a few days. He was taken into custody in February 2023 for the allegation of committing scam in the policy of liquor excise[2]. The case is under investigation and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are investigating this case separately.
The two-bench judge declined this plea establishing the fact that Mr. Sisodiya’s wife’s condition is ‘’fairly stable’’[3] and that she has this illness for the past 23 years[4], and that this cannot be considered a fair ground for granting the bail. Previously, the Delhi Court had also rejected the bail application for this present case and the case of money laundering. The advocate who is representing Mr. Sisodiya however followingly informed the court that Sisodiya’s wife’s health condition is worsening progressively and that she is having relapses periodically, and there is no one to look after her as their son is also residing in States due to which the bail that is being pleaded is necessary.
Upon hearing this, the Supreme Court has listed Mr. Sisodiya’s interim bail application along with the main plea for granting regular bail on September 4 for this case of liquor excise policy scam and directed the CBI to assess the medical condition of Sisodiya’s wife to find the genuineness of the claims that has been made by him if found necessary.
