About the Organiser

Deccan Education Society is the parent body of Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce. Born out of the lofty ideals and the intense desire of four firebrand, nationalist, young men barely in their twenties and thirties, who believed in education as the best means to bring about social transformation of the Indian populace and political emancipation from the yoke of foreign rule, the Deccan Education Society has been rendering yeoman service to the nation for well over a century.

About the Moot

Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce proudly announces a Memorial lecture and the 8th edition of
the Moot Court Competition in memory of Late Shri. Vijay A. Chavan, Assistant Professor of its prestigious college. The objective of this moot is:

• To enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are required in law school.
• To expose commerce students to the nuances of court system in India.
• To provide a real-life experience and training and presenting ground-breaking arguments (oral and written).
• To encourage students to express their thoughts, thereby improving their communications skills.

Eligibility Criteria

The competition is open for undergraduate students of recognized Law and Commerce colleges/ universities/ institutes.

General Rules

• The team should consist of two mooters and one researcher only.
• The competition will be conducted in two sections; Law and Commerce.
• There are separate prizes for the Law and Commerce Sections.
• The competition for Law Colleges will be held virtually.
• The competition for Commerce Colleges will be held on campus.

How to Register?

• Interested participants, fulfilling the eligibility criteria are required to register for the event by filling a Google form attached below by providing their details.
• The registration fee is Rs 400/- per team.

Important Dates

• Queries regarding Moot Proposition: 5th January 2024- 15 January 2024
• Last date of registration for the Moot Court Event: 3th February 2024
• Submission of memorials for both Law and Commerce colleges: 6th February 2024
• Allotment of Side: 9th February 2024
• Preliminary Round and Final Round: 10th February 2024
