About the Workshop
Legal Vidhiya proudly presents a focused 3-day workshop designed for law students, legal interns, and professionals to explore the complex issue of dowry as a social evil and a legal challenge.
This workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of the concept and history of dowry, examine its transformation into a criminal offense, and critically evaluate the misuse of dowry laws and their impact on society. About the Speaker
Dr. Soumi Chatterjee is an accomplished author, researcher, and academician, currently serving as the Founder & CEO of SRTD Group and Vidhi Vaarta. She pursued her B.A. LL.B. (H) from Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, followed by a PG Diploma in Corporate Laws from the Indian Law Institute. She holds an LL.M. in Business Laws and completed her Ph.D. on “A Socio-Legal Study on Misuse of Anti-Dowry Laws by Women against their Husbands and In-Laws, with special reference to the District of Gautam Buddha Nagar, U.P. – A Critical Evaluation”. Alongside academics, she has practiced at the High Court of New Delhi and worked as Assistant Legal Manager at Tata Teleservices Ltd. She has also held teaching positions at Noida International University and GLA University, Mathura, contributing significantly to legal education.
Her contributions as an author are noteworthy, having published multiple books including “Dowry- Laws and its Misuse in India” (2021), “From Abused to Abuser- Misuse of Laws in India” (2023), and “Goddess of India- History, Beliefs and Stories” (2025). She has also authored numerous research papers in both national and international journals and has been recognized with prestigious accolades such as the Young Researchers Award by the Institute of Scholars (2021) and the Best Teacher Award by Indian Siksha Awards (2021). She has appeared in interviews on Voice of India Channel and other platforms, raising her voice on gender equality and misuse of laws.
Beyond her academic and research pursuits, Dr. Chatterjee serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Doon Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and is a certified trainer in areas such as Gender Sensitization, Diversity & Inclusion, and POSH. She is also a regular speaker at the South Bengal Club of Spiritual Studies, where she delivers talks on Indian scriptural texts and philosophies. With her diverse expertise in law, gender issues, and spirituality, she brings a unique and holistic perspective to her work as a scholar and thought leader.
