About the University

Guru Nanak Dev University was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is both a residential and an affiliating university. In conceiving the future course of the University, the objectives enshrined in the Guru Nanak Dev University Act, 1969, emphasised that the University would make provision for imparting education and promoting research in the humanities, learned professions, sciences, especially of applied nature and technology.

About the Dept of Law

The Department of Laws at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was established in the year 1972 having LL.B. Course and in 1983, teaching of LL.M. was started. The Department now offers Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) Three Years Course, B.A.LL.B Five Year Course and Master of Laws (LL.M.) One Year Course.

About the Seminar

In an era marked by rapid societal changes and technological advancements, the field of criminal law must continuously adapt to address emerging issues and challenges. This seminar, “Expanding Horizons of New Criminal Laws: Issues and Challenges,” aims to provide a comprehensive platform for discussing the latest developments in criminal legislation and their implications for the justice system.

With the recent enactment of significant legislative reforms, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam in 2023, there is a critical need to examine how these new laws will shape the future of criminal justice in India.

This seminar will bring together esteemed legal scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to engage in insightful discussions on the effectiveness of these reforms, their impact on crime prevention, and the protection of individual rights.

We are aiming to delve into the complexities of implementing these new laws and collaborate on innovative solutions to the challenges faced by the criminal justice system. This endeavor seeks to explore the expanding horizons of criminal law and contribute to the development of a more just and equitable society.

Call for Papers

Research papers are invited from the academicians, practitioners, research scholars and students on the issues related to the theme. Authors of the selected abstracts will be given an opportunity to present their papers during the seminar. Full papers submitted on or before the last date of submission shall be considered for publication. The quality based selected papers will be published in the form of a Book bearing ISBN.

Submission Guidelines
