About the Internship

Prof. N. R. Madhava Menon Interdisciplinary Centre for Research Ethics and Protocols is an Inter University Centre of Excellence, situated in the main campus of Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, Kerala, India. The Centre functions with the aim of disseminating knowledge in the domain of interdisciplinary studies with special focus on ethics.

The Centre is offering a Two-months internship (Online and offline- hybrid mode) with a scholarship support of Rs.5000/- per month for graduate and post graduate students of different Universities (from India as well as abroad), from the discipline of law and science. 

Eligibility Criteria

Graduate or Post Graduate students from any of the recognized institutions and Universities in the discipline of Science/ Law are eligible to apply.

Required Skills:

  • Students must have a keen interest and curiosity in learning and understanding the ethical issues and conflicts that arise upon the intersection of the disciplines of law and science.
  • Students must have good command over English language and must be well versed in the types of research, steps of conducting research, article and report writing etc.,

Selection Criteria

  • Applicants are required to submit an abstract of not more than 200 words proposing an empirical research on any of the  interdisciplinary topic connecting the disciplines of science and law wherein major ethical dilemmas and conflicts exist.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend an online interview for preparation of the final list of selected candidates.
  • The admission to the program will be based on merit.
  • Once the internship application is approved, the matter will be informed to the candidates by way of a formal mail from the Centre.
  • The interns will then have to carry out the research after incorporating the suggestions put forward by the Centre.

Duration & Mode of Internship

  • The internship will be for a period of two months.
  • The Internship will be in online/offline (Hybrid).
  • The date of commencement of the internship will be informed by the Centre.

The application should be enclosed with the following documents:

  • Original Bonafide Certificate (in the format provided herewith as Annexure 2).
  • Latest Curriculum Vitae
  • Any article or report which the applicant has written in the past (if any)
  • An abstract of   not more than 200 words proposing a study on an area of interdisciplinary character connecting science and law wherein ethical dilemmas exists.

Scheme of Internship

  • On the first day of the internship, there will be a short orientation program by the Co-ordinator of the Centre (offline).
  • Throughout the course of the internship, the interns will be required to submit weekly progress reports and the details of work planned for the subsequent week on every weekend, using the forms provided by the Centre.
  • Interns must obtain the approval from the Centre before using any tool for data collection for the purpose of the study.
  • Based on the research, the interns must submit a final internship report before the Co-Ordinator of the Centre at the end of the internship period.
  • The date for submission of the report, detailed format for submission etc., will be issued to the interns by the Centre during the course of the program.
  • Failure to submit the final internship report as well as the weekly progress reports on time will result in termination of the internship.
  • Further, they may be required to refund the stipend distributed if any major misconduct is identified.
  • During the course of the internship, the interns will be required to attend such webinars, seminars, conferences etc., which the Centre instructs them to attend and must submit a report on the same.
  • Further, the intern must meet such faculties and experts and collect the information from them, as and when the Centre directs them to do so.

Stipend

The student intern will be given a monthly stipend of Rs. 5000/- for two months. The total scholarship amount will be disbursed only after successful completion of the program and submission of the report.
