Abstract
Genetic research is growing very fast and changing how we understand health and medicine. New technologies like gene editing, cloning, and personalized medicine have many benefits, but they also raise important legal and ethical questions. Legal theory helps us understand how laws can guide scientists and protect people’s rights. This article explains how legal theory applies to genetics, focusing on privacy, consent, gene patents, discrimination, and ethical concerns. It also discusses constitutional rights in India and international guidelines that influence ethical practices. By using simple examples and practical situations, this study shows how science and law can work together to protect individuals while supporting scientific progress.

Introduction
Genetics is one of the fastest growing fields in science today. It helps us understand how diseases happen, why people respond differently to treatments, and how we can improve health care. Things like gene editing, genetic testing, and personalized medicine are changing lives and giving new hope for curing illnesses. These technologies are exciting, but they also bring questions about what is right and what is ethical.
With rapid advances in genetics, we need laws to make sure science benefits everyone without harming anyone. Legal theory gives us ideas and rules to guide judges and lawmakers when deciding tricky questions. For example, who owns genetic information?
