About the Workshop
Legal Vidhiya presents a 3-Day Live Workshop on Domestic Violence Act in Practice: From Complaint to Enforcement” scheduled from 13 February – 15February 2026.This workshop is specially designed for law students, interns, young advocates, social workers, and legal professionals who wish to gain a practical, procedural, and hands-on understanding of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005
.
The workshop provides a step-by-step journey of a domestic violence case, beginning from the filing of a complaint and involvement of authorities, moving through drafting applications and claiming reliefs, and finally addressing replies, evidence, orders, and enforcement mechanisms.
Through statutory interpretation, drafting exercises, case law discussions, and practical insights, participants will develop the confidence to draft, argue, and assist in domestic violence proceedings effectively.
Day 1: Legal Framework & Role of Authorities
“Understanding the Domestic Violence Act: Law, Procedure & Authorities”
- Overview, object, and scope of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005
- Meaning and forms of domestic violence under Section 3
- Who can file a complaint and against whom
- Role and powers of the Protection Officer
- Duties of Police, Service Providers, and Magistrates
- Jurisdiction of the Magistrate’s Court
- Procedure for filing a Domestic Incident Report (DIR)
- Landmark judgments interpreting the DV Act
- Practical understanding of initiating proceedings under the Act
Day 2: Drafting Applications & Reliefs under the DV Act
“Drafting under the DV Act: Applications, Reliefs & Court Strategy”
- Drafting applications under Section 12 of the DV Act
- Interim and ex-parte orders
- Protection orders, residence orders, and monetary relief
- Custody orders and compensation
- Structuring pleadings with facts, reliefs, and affidavits
- Common drafting mistakes and best practices
- Practical drafting samples and clause-by-clause explanation
- Judicial approach towards granting interim relief
Day 3: Replies, Evidence & Enforcement of Orders
“Replies, Evidence & Enforcement: Making the Law Effective”

- Understanding burden of proof in DV proceedings
- Evidence in DV cases – documents, oral evidence, and affidavits
- Cross-examination and appreciation of evidence

About the Speaker
Advocate Gaurav Puri is the Managing Partner at GLS Law Offices, where he leads the firm’s Litigation, Trial Advocacy, and Dispute Resolution practice. Under his leadership, the firm has been recognized as the “Best Emerging Dispute Resolution Firm 2025 – North India” at the APAC Insider Legal Awards 2025. He has also been individually honored by CEOInsightsIndia as one of the “Top 10 Leaders in Finance–Legal Consulting – 2025”, reflecting his growing influence and professional excellence in the legal domain.
In addition to his role at GLS Law Offices, Advocate Gaurav Puri is the Founder of the Law Office of Gaurav Puri and serves as an External Partner at NC Legal. He regularly acts as Local Counsel for leading law firms and senior advocates, handling filings and representations across the Haryana region, including Gurugram, Jhajjar, Bahadurgarh, and Faridabad. He is also associated with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority as a Legal Services Advocate and is a certified Trademark Agent, offering comprehensive legal and advisory services.
Beyond practice, Advocate Gaurav Puri is deeply engaged in legal education, mentorship, and scholarship. He serves as the Chief Advisory Board Member of Nyayadeep Shiksha Law Journal and as an Advisory Board Member of the Journal of Unique Law & Students (ISSN-2583-1607), where he previously served as Editor-in-Chief. He regularly judges inter-collegiate moot courts, mediation, negotiation, and client counselling competitions, and conducts academic sessions for law students. He has also facilitated MOUs between GLS Law Offices and institutions such as IILM University, Noida and Legal Vidhiya, creating structured internship and training opportunities. His academic credentials include an LL.M. (Silver Medalist) from O.P. Jindal Global University, an LL.B. from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, a B.A. in Political Science from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, and schooling from The Scindia School, Gwalior. He is also a published author on various legal subjects.
