About School of Law UPES
The Moot Court Association of the School of Law UPES unlocks the doors to unparalleled legal excellence, proudly fostering, administering, and facilitating mooting activities, upholding the university’s benchmark of excellence. The core mission revolves around the meticulous planning, organization, and execution of International, National, and Internal Moot Court Competitions, creating an environment that propels the development of a sparkling mooting culture within the Law School.
About the Competition
Initiated in 2011, the competition is a living tribute to the legacy of Dr. Paras Diwan, an eminent Indian jurist, and a stalwart in the field of law. What began as a national event expanded its scope in 2015, going international and proudly carrying the banner of Energy Laws across the globe. The Competition has not only grown by leaps and bounds but has also become one of the most coveted moots in the country, attracting participation from top law schools in India and abroad.
With this year’s proposition revolving around the interface of Energy Laws with Investment Laws, the upcoming 14th edition promises to be a confluence of legal brilliance, global perspectives, and technological innovation. Tune in, as we embark on a new mission to push the boundaries of legal discourse, uphold the spirit of competition, and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Paras Diwan.
Eligibility
- The competition is open for students who are pursuing LLB (three-year / five-year) courses during the current academic year.
- A recognized Institution/College/University shall be entitled to send only one Team for the Competition.
- The maximum number of participants per team shall be restricted to 3 wherein only 2 shall be speakers and 1 shall be the designated researcher. The researcher shall be allowed to argue with the prior permission of the court and National Administrator in case of illness of the designated speakers.
Note: Only the designated speaker in the Preliminary Rounds shall be eligible for the Beat Orator award.
- No Team Coach, mentor, observer, or any other person shall be accompanying registered participating team members. Teams should not disclose the identity of their institution; such disclosure shall invite penalties including disqualification. The decision for the same shall be at the discretion of the National Administrator.
Theme
The moot proposition is drafted on the theme of Energy Law and Investment Laws.
Prizes
- Winning Team – Certificate of Merit + INR 30,000 (cash prize) + Three (3) one-year access to EBC Reader worth Rs. 27,000 each. Total Value of Rs. 81,000.00 + Three (3) one-year access cards to SCC Online Web Edition to be distributed to the winning team worth Rs. 21,000 each. Total value = Rs. 63,000.
- Runners-Up Team – Certificate of Merit + INR 20,000 (cash prize) + Three (3) one-year access to EBC Learning worth Rs. 14,500 each. Total Value of Rs. 43,500.00
- Best Written Submission – Certificate of Merit+ INR 10,000 (cash prize)
- Best Orator in the Preliminary Rounds – Certificate of Merit + INR 10,000(cash prize)
- Best International Team – Certificate of Merit
- Best Researcher – Certificate of Merit + INR 10,000 (cash Prize)

Registration Procedure
- The teams have to fill out the Registration Form for the Final Registration. The Final Registration shall be done by 20th February 2024.
- The following documents are required by the teams at the time of Final Registration:
- An external participation form/approval letter (with seal and signature) as provided in the rules duly filled from the participant’s institution / moot society.
- Scanned copy of the receipt of online payment.
