In the course of the proceedings last Friday, the State Public Prosecutor, Mr. Hasan Mohammad Jinnah, made a statement to the Madras High Court denying the police’s responsibility for the cancellation of the audio launch of the highly anticipated movie Leo, featuring the renowned actor Vijay. The prosecutor pointed out that the cancellation was caused by false rumors that the state was against the fans of the popular star. In response to the judge’s previous remarks, the prosecutor explained that the recent incidents of vandalism at a theater and the chaos that ensued at AR Rahman’s concert could have been avoided if the police had ensured proper law and order.
Recently, footage of broken chairs at the Rohini theater in Koyambedu surfaced on social media after a special screening of the trailer for the movie Leo. When the judge suggested that the situation could have been prevented with police protection, the prosecutor clarified that the theater had not obtained permission from the Commissioner of Police, and as a result, no protection was granted. The prosecutor also addressed the false claims being propagated on social media platforms, reassuring the court that the police were willing to provide protection for the audio launch if the movie makers requested it.
With regard to the unfortunate incidents that took place at the AR Rahman concert, the prosecutor attributed them to the large distribution of fake tickets. The discussion on this matter took place during a plea by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh requesting permission for a route march to celebrate Indian independence and the Birth Centenary of Barath Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. However, the prosecutor opposed the permission on the grounds that the proposed route passed by mosques and churches, which could potentially cause law and order issues. The hearing has been rescheduled for October 11th.
