The portal was established on the orders of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and has been referred to as “another move to make the registry running paperless.”
On January 1, 2023, the Supreme Court will introduce a new “Advocate Appearance Portal,” making the manual filing of advocate appearance slips history.
The portal was established on the orders of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and has been referred to as “another move to make the registry running paperless.”
The advocates-on-record may submit appearance slips using the site once it has been launched.
“Advocate Appearance Portal is another step towards a paperless Registry, as directed by the Chief Justice of India, Dr. Justice Dhananjay Y. Chandrachud… The Appearance Slip will be obtained online via the Advocate Appearance Portal, and upon login, the AOR will be verified by software using a One-Time Password (OTP)” Friday’s news statement from the Court stated.
According to the press release, submitting appearance slips online would prevent two lakh sheets of paper from being used each year, making the new portal a greener choice.
According to the press release, the gateway was created and designed to make it quick, accurate, and effective to record the presence of attorneys in the record of proceedings.
“The current procedure for Appearance Slip is laborious. The Appearance Slip is received by Advocates immediately in court or through email on the day a case is listed, and verification of the AOR is performed manually under the current system. In addition, the names of Sr. Advocates and Advocates are manually typed into the Record of Proceedings.”
The new online appearance slip approach would be user-friendly.
“Access to the appearance portal will be user-specific, i.e., the AOR will have access to his/her matter appearing in the cause list of a specific day and will be able to mention appearances in the matter. The Appearance Slip will be received online via the Advocate Appearance Portal, and at the time of login, the AOR will be verified by software using a One-Time Password (OTP)” according to a news release.
