The Supreme court is all set to hear appeal from Rahul Gandhi , Congress leader against the Gujarat High court’ verdict. The Bench comprising of BR Gavai and PK Mishra would likely hear the appeal on 21st July 2023.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi sought urgent hearing of the matter. Rahul Gandhi in this matter have appeal that if the decision of Gujarat high court is not stayed , it would cause great miscarriage of justice causing irreversible damage. It is to be noted that Mr Gandhi would lose his parliament membership permanently.
He further added the verdict throttles free speech, expression, thought and violate his fundamental rights. It is to be noted that Mr Gandhi has been convicted by a metropolitan magistrate court under section 499 and 500 of Indian penal code which refers to Criminal defamation.
