A Petition was filed against Tamil Nadu government. It challenged the state government’s decision to construct a pen statue at the Marine beach. It is a memorial monument to honor the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M.Karunanidhi of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ( DMK ) who was also a Indian writer who contributed to Tamil literature.
According to the Senior Advocate P.Willson who represent State argued that the petition has become Infructuous. The petition sought direction to the State Government and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate change to stop from the continuity of construction. However subsequently the clearance was granted by the authorities. Various other petitions were also filed against Tamil Nadu government. In the present plea it sought for various directions. The petitioners were of the opinion that the uncontrolled construction activities in the sea areas would have devastating effect on natural calamities. They further continued that the experts were of the opinion that the uncontrolled construction is the reason for recent floods in the state of Tamil Nadu.
An Intervention Petition was filed by the opposition party to which the court asked the parties to stop from bringing politics to court. The state sought permission from court to file the orders and documents passed by National Green Tribunal in the next date of hearing. The matter is adjourned to July 14 2023.
