The state government has made another major breakthrough by making reservations for transgender students in nursing homes. According to a statement issued by Health Minister Veena George on Wednesday, one place will be reserved for candidates from the community in both general nursing and undergraduate programs. The decision is the result of the efforts of Varsha J S, a transgender woman living in Kasaragod. Candidates belonging to the transgender community can currently apply for only one BSc Nursing and one General Nursing post. For the first time in history, transgender people are now getting reservations in the care sector. The government is taking the lead in helping transgender people. In a Facebook post, Veena George noted that this is another step to ensure the representation of the transgender community in the healthcare industry. According to Varsha, the measures will ensure the representation of transgender people in the medical field. There are no nurses in our neighborhood. My career goal is to be a nurse. This is also my last chance. So about two weeks ago, I visited with the minister and asked to book a place for our group as well. If not me, someone else can use the seat, Varsha pointed out.
