On Friday, Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi urged the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in courtrooms to make the administration of justice easier for litigants.
According to the PM, using AI in the legal industry today is crucial, along with understanding customary laws and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) procedures.
PM Modi stated in a Hindi-language speech,
Artificial intelligence is employed in the legal sector as well. In order to facilitate justice, we must also use AI to simplify court procedures for the general public.
Additionally, he discussed the significance of property rights, emphasizing how ensuring that individuals receive property cards can help decrease litigation in this area.
PM Modi pertinently brought up the Union Budget provision that provides money for long-detained undertrial defendants who are unable to provide their bail bonds.
“Our jails are overcrowded with people awaiting trial who cannot afford bail or have no one show up to get them out. Most of these people are poor and behind bars for petty offences. In this Union Budget, we have made provisions for them. The money will be distributed to the states so that these undertrials can avoid jail.
