About CNLU
Chanakya National Law University (CNLU) was founded under the Bihar Act No. 24 of 2006 with the support of the Government of Bihar and is listed under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the U.G.C. Act, 1956. The university was created with the noble aim of benefiting society by offering high-quality legal education and promoting legal awareness.
It is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and registered with the Bar Council of India (BCI). CNLU has earned a national reputation as a distinguished institution for legal research and education.
The university is committed to enhancing student opportunities and research capabilities through conferences, capacity-building programs, guest lectures, and competitions in essays and research papers, etc.
Centre for Law and Economics
The Centre for Law and Economics (CLE), is a centre for research and training in the discipline of law & economics (also referred to as the economic analysis of law). The centre seeks to explain the relevance, uses, and application of the interdisciplinary approach of law and economics among students and academicians in dealing with contemporary socio-economic-legal issues in more logical and scientific way.
CLE aims to increase awareness about the interface between law and economics useful for policy formulation for the academic community, government, corporations, and society. The Centre further strives to provide a forum where leading practitioners and academicians, scholars, and students, can discuss and exchange views on contemporary issues of law and economic policy
About the Event
The first CLE-CNLU National Essay Writing Competition serves as a platform for participants to showcase their research and writing skills while engaging in scholarly discourse on contemporary legal issues relating to Law and Economics. The event aims to foster intellectual growth, promote research, and encourage critical thinking among the participants in the field of Law and Economics.
The competition is open to all the UG and PG students of recognised law schools/universities and colleges, providing an opportunity to contribute to legal scholarship. This provides participants with a valuable opportunity to contribute to the legal discourse and gain visibility for their work.
The program aims to introduce aspiring legal scholars to the dynamic intersection of law and economics, fostering curiosity and active engagement among students in this multifaceted field.
Eligibility
The competition is open to all the UG and PG students of recognised law schools/universities and colleges.
Theme of the Competition
The Centre encourages submission of essays under the broad theme of “INTERPLAY OF LAW AND ECONOMICS.”
Sub-themes include, but are not limited to the following:
- Interface between Law and Economics: Economic analysis of various laws like property, contract, tort law, criminal law, civil law, common law, constitutional, and election law etc.
- Economic analysis of Regulation and Business Law: Role of regulation, effectiveness of regulation, regulatory governance, antitrust, business and securities, regulated industries, cyber, real estate, insolvency, competition.
- Macroeconomics and Law: Interplay of economic tools in public policy analysis, reforms in India formation of monetary policy, cyber-crimes, stock market regulations, sovereign bonds, corporate and banking bankruptcy, tax evasion, black money, Basel and financial stability board norms, WTO, IRDA, TRAI, SEBI, PFRDA, and Cryptocurrency their economic significance etc.
- Technology, AI and Economics: Economic policy and Big Data, AI and Growth and Development.
- International Law (Public and Private): International trade, environmental law, human rights law, intellectual property rights etc.

Prizes & Awards
- 1st PRIZE TO BEST ESSAY: 10,000 (INR) + CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
- 2nd PRIZE TO SECOND BEST ESSAY: 7,000 (INR) + CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
- 3rd PRIZE TO THIRD BEST ESSAY: 5,000 (INR) + CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
- All participants will get a Certificate of Participation.
Formatting Guidelines
- The body of the manuscript should be in Times New Roman, size 12 and line spacing of 1.5. Headings should be size 14. All text should be justified, with a margin spacing of 1” on all sides.
- The contributors’ names should not be mentioned in the manuscript.
- The footnotes should be in Times New Roman, size 10 and line spacing of 1. The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (20th ed.) should be followed for footnoting.
- The authors may include tables and diagrams, which should be numbered consecutively and included in the text. Source must be mentioned below the table.
- The manuscript should be error-free, original and plagiarism-free, with a maximum of 10% similarity allowed.
- Essays will also be checked for AI-generated content as use of AI is strictly prohibited.
- Headings and Sub-headings must be appropriately numbered as:

Each Manuscript Must Contain
Cover page, which must include:
- Full title of the paper (Times New Roman, bold, font size: 16).
- Name(s) of contributor(s) and designation.
- E-mail and contact number.
- Abstract (150-350 words).
- Maximum 5 keywords.
- References (at the end of the paper, arranged alphabetically).
Submission Guidelines
- The language/ medium of the essay shall be English.
- Co-authorship up to max. two authors is allowed. One person can submit only one essay.
- Soft copies of manuscripts are to be uploaded in MS Word and PDF format through the Google form provided post registration via E-mail.
- The name of the file should be saved in the name of the author/ authors.
- Submissions are to be made in the form of MS Word (2003 & above) and PDF.
- Manuscript word limit: 3500-5000 (excluding footnotes).

Note: The registration fees paid towards the competition shall be completely non-refundable and no claims for refund shall be entertained by the organizing committee.
