Killings of innocents unacceptable, Modi says at G-20 meet

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized a strong stance against terrorism, expressing zero tolerance for the unacceptable loss of innocent lives, especially among children and women. His remarks came during the concluding session of the virtual G-20 summit, addressing the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Mr. Modi, after considering the perspectives of other leaders, highlighted a consensus on various points, underscoring the need to address terrorism effectively. Among the key agreements at the G-20, he emphasized the importance of a two-state solution for a lasting resolution to the Israel-Palestine issue

Prime Minister Modi stressed that talking and working together through diplomacy is the key to resolving territorial and political crises. He expressed condemnation for terrorism and violence, urging the restoration of peace and stability in West Asia. He highlighted the importance of peaceful discussions to address the issues and bring about regional harmony.

Speaking at the G-20 meeting hosted by India, Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to the situation in Ukraine as a “tragedy” and expressed concern about conflicts in other places, such as the Gaza Strip, which he found “shocking.”

Leaders at the G-20 discussed the distressing events in Ukraine and other conflict areas, highlighting the need for swift and secure assistance to those affected, particularly in Gaza. Prime Minister Modi emphasized the urgent and safe delivery of help to the residents in Gaza.

Prime Minister Modi happily acknowledged the release of Israeli hostages, stating that the G-20 is prepared to provide any necessary assistance. He expressed confidence in the unity of the global body, emphasizing the shared goal of ”vasudhaiva kutumbakam” for worldwide peace, stability, and prosperity.

Mr. Modi also highlighted the G-20’s commitment to meeting the expectations of the Global South. He expressed optimism about the G-20 progressing in addressing the reform of multilateral development banks and global governance. The G-20 is working together for global well-being and aims to address issues important to countries worldwide.

Prime Minister Modi mentioned that steps for debt restructuring would be taken transparently, hinting at the possible agenda during Brazil’s presidency of the G-20. He also highlighted the need for consensus and consideration of various countries’ opinions in addressing global economic challenges.
