The Kerala High Court has issued directions for crowd management at Sabarimala temple during the Mandala Makaravilakku festival, including restricting entry from Pamba to those with virtual queue or spot booking. The court has directed the Travancore Devaswom Board to limit spot bookings to 10,000 per day when the virtual queue booking reaches the maximum cap of 80,000 at Sabarimala temple. Justice Narendran expressed disappointment with the current situation at Sabarimala temple. He mentioned a video of an elderly lady being taken care of by a police officer and emphasized the importance of caring for pilgrims.
A bench of Justices Anil K Narendran and G Girish, during the hearing, tit was directed by the court that the police should regulate pilgrim movement for safety and maximum darshan. Special queues for women, children, and disabled were ordered, along with cleanliness and refreshment provisions.
The Court was informed about police personnel and mobile squads deployed for crowd management. The Court directed the police chief to increase mobile squads and coordinate support for stranded pilgrims. The matter will be discussed again on Thursday.
