The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday talked about its observation on how many contractors and engineers have been using low quality products while constructing houses under public projects.

The Court told the State Government to take the responsibility and ensure that good quality products are used in any scheme involving public money. This money often gets misused by the contactors later leading to a dilapidated state of the public houses.

Justice M. Nagaprasana while making this observation also rejected a petition filed by a Mysuru- based construction company named PG Setty Constitution Technology Pvt. Ltd. The Company had questioned the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure of encashing a gurantee from bank of ₹1.15 crore for cheap quality work of the Police Residential quarters by the company.

The company claimed that it was liable only for structural defects and not and the others like quality of products. The Court rejected this claim.

The Judge said the following while dismissing the plea- “it is rather surprising how the engineers of the corporation or the engineers concerned have cleared the bills without inspecting the construction and its quality, as complaints of cracks and leakages have arisen immediately after the completion certificate is issued.”
