About the Competition
The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) proudly announces the Judge Radha Binod Pal Essay Competition as part of the International Conclave on “Radha Binod Pal and Quest for Justice: Historical Perspectives and Contemporary Implications”
This prestigious competition invites law students to engage critically with the legacy of Justice Radha Binod Pal, particularly his dissenting opinion at the Tokyo Trials, and explore its continued relevance in international criminal law.
The Topic for the Essay
“Echoes of Dissent: The Enduring Impact of Justice Radha Binod Pal”
Eligibility Criteria
- The competition is open to students pursuing their bachelor’s degree in law (5 years/ 3 Years) from any recognised university in India or abroad.
Submission Guidelines
- Word Limit: The essay should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words (excluding footnotes).
- Format: Submissions must adhere to the following formatting guidelines:
- Font: Times New Roman
- Font Size: 12
- Line Spacing: 1.5
- Footnotes: Times New Roman, font size 10, single-spaced
- Citation Style: Bluebook (latest edition). [Citations are mandatory and should be in the form of footnotes following a uniform format.]
- Essays must be submitted in PDF format. The essay’s main body must not include any personal details of the author.
- Co-authorship is not allowed; only single-authored essays will be accepted.
- All submitted documents will go through plagiarism checks and must be below 10 % similarity. Special consideration will be placed upon the originality, applicability and feasibility of the arguments/ suggestions made in the essay and the depth of research.
Important Deadlines
- Essay Submission Deadline: All essays must be submitted by 4th November, 2024.
- Results Announcement: Winners will be announced on 10th November 2024.

- Essays should be uploaded on the link given at the end of the post.
- The File Name of the document must be renamed as <Essay-Name of the Author>
Prize Pool
The prize pool for the competition is as follows:
- First Prize: ₹50,000
- Second Prize: ₹25,000
- Third Prize: ₹15,000
Presentation and Accommodation
The winning participants will be invited to present their essays during the International Conclave on Relevance of Judge Dr. Radha Binod Pal’s Dissent in International Law.
Selected Essays may be considered for publication in a book bearing an ISBN Number from a reputed publisher and other invited resource persons.
The final decision on publication and presentation depends on the editorial committee’s blind review of the full paper and the quality of the research work.
Winners will also be provided accommodation (if required) for the essay presentation part of the conclave.
