The Legal and Treaties Division within the MEA plays a key role in drafting and interpreting international treaties and legal matters concerning India’s global commitments.
About the Job Opportunity
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites online applications for two (2) permanent posts of Legal Officer (Grade-I) in the Legal and Treaties Division, MEA. These are General Central Services Group ‘A’ Gazetted, Non-Ministerial posts located in New Delhi.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist the Legal and Treaties Division on international legal matters
- Interpret and advise on legal aspects concerning India’s international treaties
- Engage in work related to laws of the seas, international rivers, and related global legal issues
- Contribute to legal documentation and international negotiations
Eligibility & Qualifications:
Essential Educational Qualification
- Master’s Degree in Law from a recognized university with specialization in International Law / International Relations / International Organizations
(Candidates with M.Phil or Ph.D. in International Law are also eligible even if the Master’s was not specialized in it)
Experience
- 10 years’ experience as an advocate or in legal services of the Government, or in teaching/research in law from a recognized institution
- At least 8 years must be specifically in International Law or International Relations
Desirable Qualification
- Certificate course (minimum 6 months) in one or two foreign languages (excluding English)
Age Limit
- Maximum 50 years for UR candidates
