Role description
This role is pivotal in ensuring that slice operates within the legal frameworks defined by RBI and other regulatory authorities, while also supporting our business teams on transactional, contractual, and operational matters. You’ll be part of a small, agile legal team working closely with key stakeholders across the organization. You will also be a vital link between Executive Management and other key stakeholders.
What You will do:
1. Regulatory & Compliance:
- Ensure the bank’s operations adhere to all applicable laws and RBI guidelines.
- Interpret and apply regulatory updates relevant to Small Finance Banks.
- Support in preparing and reviewing responses to regulatory authorities (RBI, SEBI, FIU, etc.).
- Guide on implementation of regulatory circulars impacting products, branches, and business functions.
2. Business & Operational Legal Support:
- Draft, vet, and negotiate contracts, loan agreements, NDAs, vendor agreements, MOUs, etc.
- Partner with business teams to structure new products and services in line with regulatory norms.
- Support digital and technology-led product launches with appropriate legal frameworks (UPI, credit cards, APIs, etc.
3. Governance & Risk:
- Assist in reviewing board resolutions, policy documents, and legal aspects of strategic initiatives.
- Conduct internal legal risk assessments and advise on mitigation.
- Maintain and update the repository of legal documents and trackers.
4. Litigation & Dispute Resolution:
- Coordinate with external counsel, monitor case progress, and ensure timely legal action.
- Represent the bank in courts/tribunals as required, with support from external advocates.
What you will need:
- LL.B. from a reputed university; CS or LL.M. is a plus.
- 8–12 years of legal experience, preferably in the banking space.
- Strong understanding of RBI regulations, banking laws, and contract law.
- Prior in-house legal experience in a bank or financial institution preferred.
