This is a full-time, on-site position for a Junior Lawyer, based at the Kingston Educational Institute Headquarters in Kolkata.
The Junior Lawyer will support the legal department in managing institutional legal affairs, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks applicable to educational institutions and trusts, and advising management on legal matters. The role involves assisting in legal research, drafting, vetting of documents, contract management, and compliance monitoring.
Additionally, the Junior Lawyer will contribute to the academic ecosystem by acting as a practical legal trainer for law students and accompanying students to the High Court and Supreme Court as part of their experiential learning programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and prepare case summaries, briefs, and reports.
- Draft, review, and vet various legal documents, agreements, and institutional policies.
- Assist in compliance matters related to the Trust and Society Act, UGC, AICTE, BCI, and Higher Education Department regulations.
- Liaise with external counsel, government authorities, and internal departments for ongoing cases and compliance requirements.
- Support in drafting notices, replies, and legal correspondence.
- Maintain and update legal records, case files, and institutional compliance registers.
- Provide legal assistance in matters related to property, contracts, affiliations, and intellectual property rights.
- Participate in student engagement activities by providing legal exposure and accompanying law students to courts for practical training.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
- Valid license to practice law under the Bar Council of India.
- Proficiency in legal drafting, research, and interpretation of statutes.
- Familiarity with Trust, Society, and Education Laws.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Prior internship or experience in educational, corporate, or institutional law is preferred.
Preferred Skills
Experience in conducting legal awareness sessions or practical training for students.
Working knowledge of compliance filing, contract lifecycle management, and digital legal documentation.
Understanding of academic regulations and government liaisons.
