About the Job Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intellectual Property Paralegal to manage legal and business matters related to content acquisition and distribution for US entertainment market working in Kolkata, India. This role will be instrumental in negotiating and drafting agreements for movies, documentaries, series, and podcast content. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Intellectual Property, entertainment law, transactions, and data privacy regulations.
The attorney will work cross-functionally across the organization, providing legal guidance and ensuring compliance while supporting acquisitions, content, and deal flows. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of content acquisition and distribution strategies in an evolving media landscape.
Job Responsibilities:
- Draft agreements related to content acquisition and distribution, including licensing deals for movies, documentaries, series, and podcasts for legal rights & territories involved not limited to only USA.
- Provide strategic legal counsel on business activities, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and risk management strategies.
- Structure and execute transactions, manage deal flows, and facilitate contract execution.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including acquisitions India, content, finance, and compliance, to ensure smooth and legally sound operations.
- Advise on legal aspects of content licensing, intellectual property rights, and distribution agreements.
- Familiarity with data privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, EU Data Protection) to ensure compliance across all relevant business functions.
- Identify and mitigate legal risks while supporting business initiatives and growth strategies.
- Maintain daily email & chat communication with Chief Legal Officer in USA along with external counsel and regulatory bodies as needed.
- Daily/weekly & monthly calls with internal and external stakeholders in US hours.
Eligibility & Qualifications:
- LLB or equivalent legal degree with strong entertainment law or similar industry like music licensing experience is required.
- 5+ Experience in Intellectual property rights, content licensing, trademarks & licensing brands will be preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in legal drafting, negotiations, and business affairs in the media, entertainment, or content distribution industry is preferred.
- Expertise in handling transactions, structuring deals, and negotiating complex agreements preferred.
- Strong knowledge of global data privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and EU Data Protection.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and supporting acquisitions, content licensing, and deal execution.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Experience working in a studio, streaming platform, or major content distribution company.
- Familiarity with podcast acquisition and distribution agreements.
- Proven ability to navigate evolving industry regulations and market trends.
