In a pivotal move, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Saturday that Israel was engaged in an existential battle against “barbarians” for the survival of the Jewish state. This statement followed a devastating Hamas terror attack on October 7, which claimed the lives of 1,400 Israelis, a tragedy he acknowledged as a “terrible failure” on the part of the nation’s security and intelligence forces.
Netanyahu pledged to “save our country” and emphasized that the state of Israel was facing a critical test of its existence. He expressed unwavering support for the Israeli commanders and soldiers who are actively engaged in enemy territory within the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that the entire nation and its leadership stood firmly behind them.
Israel’s ground activity within Gaza has intensified, as tanks were spotted operating a mile into the northwest region of Gaza. Intense shelling continued throughout the region. Israeli forces have also released footage of their operations, which include destroying missile launch sites, a “booby-trapped structure,” and a Hamas “operational meeting point.”
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) urged Palestinian residents of northern Gaza and Gaza City to temporarily relocate south for their immediate safety, as the IDF’s operation aimed to neutralize the threat posed by Hamas with precision and intensity.
Netanyahu reaffirmed that Israel’s objective was to “destroy the military and government ability of Hamas and return the victims home.” While Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar proposed a prisoner swap involving the Israeli hostages in exchange for all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, Netanyahu indicated that discussions on this issue were underway within Israel’s war cabinet.
As the war enters a new phase with a ground operation, Israel remains resolute in its mission to secure its own existence and protect its citizens.
