On Thursday, the Supreme Court made available a list of more than 10,000 judgments from January 1, 2014 to March 31, 2023, along with suggested neutral citations, in order to make crowdsourcing checking easier. This way, any items that are missing or incorrect can be fixed with the assistance of legal professionals and publishers.
The notice requested responses to be sent to the Registrar of the top court’s Library and Editorial Section within 15 days.
“We request important ideas on the proposed rundown of cases and the reference impartial references.
“One may make suggestions regarding any missing or incorrect data, if any, in the list of judgments,” the notice stated. “One may compare the list of cases and neutral citations with their own database.” A final list of judgments with neutral citations will be published by the Registry after taking suggestions into consideration. Any suggestions should be sent to the Registrar, Library, and Editorial Section via email at judgeslibrary@sci.nic.in within 15 days.
The system of neutral citations, developed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, will ensure that all Supreme Court and High Court decisions are cited in the same way. In February of this year, the launch of this system was announced by CJI Chandrachud. In addition, this year, CJI Chandrachud launched the e-ESCR project, which provides free access to digital versions of all Supreme Court decisions.
