Haryana Nuh Violence: Punjab and Haryana High Court stays demolition drive

 Following recent communal incidents in the city, the Punjab and Haryana High Court took Suo Motu cognizance on Monday and ordered a halt to the demolition campaign taking place in the Nuh district of Haryana. (Court on its own Motion vs state of Haryana). 

A Bench headed by Justice GS Sandhawalia  will look into the matter. A crowd stormed a VHP procession on July 31 in the early hours after hearing rumors that cow vigilante Monu Manesar would be joining the march.

 The subsequent fights, resulted in at least five fatalities and at least 70 injuries, including police officers. According to additional reports, the police have detained over 80 persons and recorded roughly 40 complaints in relation to communal violence.

 Officials have been cited as claiming that the destroyed buildings were homes, stores, and unpermitted buildings in Nuh that were built on public property and occupied by people suspected of taking part in the community fighting. 

The Superintendent of Police allegedly stated that 147 people have been arrested so far as a consequence of 56 First Information Reports (FIRs) that have been submitted in connection with the communal violence.
