SPIL Mumbai proudly presents the highly anticipated 15th Government Law College International Law Summit, 2025!  The event is scheduled to be held on 8th March 2025 in an Offline Mode, with the central theme being International Environmental Law. The Summit will bring together legal experts, scholars, and practitioners to engage in insightful discussions, fostering an enriching platform to address pressing global challenges and explore emerging legal perspectives.

We are proud to present the 15th Government Law College International Law Summit, 2025, organised by Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai. The Summit comprises of Keynote addresses, a novel and unique Judgment Deliberation Competition (JDC)©, Call for Papers – SPIL International Law Journal, Paper Presentations and a Panel Discussion.

The theme for this year’s International Law Summit is International Environmental Law. This theme is not just a reflection of the pressing need for collective global action, but also an exploration of the intricate legal frameworks that govern how nations interact with, and protect, the environment. The chosen theme not only underscores the urgency of environmental action but also emphasises the role of law in achieving meaningful progress. Participants will explore the role of international treaties, the responsibilities of states, and the balance between development and environmental protection, fostering a deeper understanding of the legal tools necessary to confront one of humanity’s greatest challenges.

SPIL Mumbai welcomes you to an eagerly awaited segment of the 15th Government Law College International Law Summit 2025! We are thrilled to introduce the Panel Discussion, 2025 on Redefining The Scope Of The ICC’s Jurisdiction: Recognition Of Ecocide As The Fifth International Crime.

With climate change and ecological harm escalating, the need for accountability is more urgent than ever. Can large-scale environmental destruction be prosecuted as an international crime? Should ecocide be recognised as the fifth crime under the RomeStatute?

This Panel will explore the potential expansion of the ICC’s jurisdiction to include environmental crimes, bringing together experts to discuss the legal, political, and socio-economic aspects of criminalising ecocide, along with enforcement challenges and impacts on global climate policies.
