A woman named Brittany claimed in 2021 that former New York governor Andrew Cuomo had inappropriately touched her while she was employed by him. She’s now filing a lawsuit to take him to court. She claims in the documents submitted to the Albany, New York, court that she experienced ongoing sexual harassment starting in December 2019, including remarks and physical contact that she didn’t want.
As of yet, Cuomo’s attorney has not responded.
Just so you know, Democratic Governor Cuomo announced his resignation in August of 2021. The cause? Attorney General Letitia James of New York conducted an investigation and found that he had harassed eleven women.
A sex offense charge was filed against the governor in October 2021 after Commisso claimed that he had touched her breast while she was at his house in December 2020. Interestingly, despite Cuomo’s being accused of many things, this was the only criminal charge.
Nevertheless, the Albany district attorney made the decision to dismiss the case in January 2022. Though he thought Commisso was being cooperative and truthful, he couldn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she had committed a crime. September 2022, Cuomo was sued by Charlotte Bennett, another former assistant, for sexual harassment. Cuomo disputes it, and a ruling on the matter is still pending.
Commisso is one of many plaintiffs who have filed cases under the Adult Survivors Act of New York, which permits them to do so even after an excessive amount of time has elapsed. The legal deadline for this unique one-year opportunity expired on Thursday.
