The Hon’ble Justice Prashant Kumar Mishraand Senior Advocate KV Viswanathanwere appointed as judges of the Supreme Court on Thursday by the Central government.
The whole scenario regarding the appointment as far as the announcement is concerned, the whole information was published on the website owned by the Department of Justice (The Union Law Ministry).
Both of them will take oath as judges at 10.30 am on May 19, Friday.
The whole ceremony regarding the oath will be visible live through the website of the Supreme Court of India.
On May 16, the collegium of the Supreme Court suggested that the appointment can be done by way of resolution.
The composition of the collegium is in such a way, it is headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachudand consists of other justices of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, SKKaul, KM Joseph, Ajay Rastogi, and Sanjiv Khanna.
They (Composites of the collegium system) have discussed and decided that at the time of the recommendation, only one member from the bar can directly be appointed to the bench of the Supreme Court.
The birthdate of Viswanathan is May 16, 1966, and his tenure as a judge of the Supreme Court will sustain until May 25, 2031.
As Justice JB Pardiwala will be supposed to retire on August 11, 2030, Viswanathan will be assumed to be Chief Justice of India (CJI) before he will get retired on May 25, 2031.
Justice Prashant Mishra was previously the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh high court, while his parent High Court is Chattisgarh[1].
The vacancies in Supreme Court would be raised again with the retirement of two judges namely KM Joseph and Ajay Rastogi on June, 2023[2].
