About Univ of Calcutta
Established in 1909 under the guidance of Sir Ashutosh Mukherjee, the Department of Law of the University of Calcutta is one of the oldest legal institutions in the South Asian subcontinent. It is one of the most prestigious law colleges in India and ranks 2nd in the State of West Bengal.
About the Committee
Established in the year 2019, the Magazine Committee aims to chronicle and showcase the diverse activities and achievements within the institution as well as of the various competitions organised by the Committee.
The Committee publishes it’s bi-annual magazine ‘The Muses’, written and edited by the students of the Department of Law, University of Calcutta, which chronicles all activities under the aegis of the institution and paints a picture of the yearly endeavours of this institute and its students.
This publication provides a platform for the students to exhibit their creative, scientific, literary, academic prowess. In this edition, the committee is accepting submissions from all. It also runs an online blog “The Musing” where articles, essays, poems and interviews are published.
About the Blog
The Musing is the online undergraduate blog of the Magazine Committee of Department of Law, University of Calcutta, overseen and regulated by the Editorial Board of the Magazine Committee.
The blog intends to trigger the artistic and literal aspects of the law students and provide a platform to showcase their talents in the field of literature, art, poetry etc. Submissions would be on a rolling basis with no deadlines. A maximum of 2 co-authorship is allowed. Candidates can submit any piece of their works based on the following categories in 3 languages (English, Hindi and Bengali)-
- Prose
- Blogs
- Essays
- Articles
- Poems
- Paintings
The Editorial Board of The Musing shall entertain Non-Legal articles and submissions for publication within the said Blog from academicians, lawyers, jurists, and students alike.
Submission Specification
- Font: Times New Roman
- Body Font Size: 12
- File Format: Microsoft Word or PDF
- Body Line Spacing: 1.5
- Page Margin Spacing: 1″ (Top, Bottom, Left & Right)
- For poems it shall be limited to 1-2 pages and for essays, articles, blogs it shall not be more than 1000 words.
How to Submit?
- All submissions shall be directed to dolcu.themuses@gmail.com (the official email handle of the Magazine Committee ) bearing the subject – “Submission for The Musing” and attach brief biographical information about the author. Eg. ‘X is a 5th-year B.A. LL.B (Hons.) student at ABC Law College’.
- Plagiarism upto 15% would be accepted, else the submission would be rejected.
- Plagiarism report has to be attached with the submission.
- Non legal articles shall be entertained only.
- No obscene paintings, writings, sexually or politically toned submissions would be entertained.
- The decision of the Editorial Board of the Magazine Committee shall be final.
Awards
Certificate of Publication would be provided to the candidates.
