About the Department

The Department of Laws, Panjab University was originally established at Lahore in 1889, re-established at Shimla in 1948, and finally re-located at the Panjab University Campus at Chandigarh in 1959. Its alumni include Judges of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and High Courts, Union Cabinet Ministers, State Chief Ministers, Cabinet Ministers, and other legal luminaries.

Through the years the Department of Laws at Panjab University has made worthy contribution to the legal landscape of the country as evidenced by its illustrious alumni as well as by the strength of its legal research and academic merit.

About the Competition Commission of India

To promote and sustain an enabling competition culture through engagement and enforcement that would inspire businesses to be fair, competitive and innovative; enhance consumer welfare and support economic growth?

The Competition Act, 2002, as amended by the Competition (Amendment) Act, 2007, follows the philosophy of modern competition laws. The Act prohibits anti-competitive agreements, and abuse of dominant position by enterprises and regulates combinations (acquisition, acquiring of control, and M&A), which cause or are likely to cause an appreciable adverse effect on competition within India.

About the Moot

Department of Laws, Panjab University is thrilled to announce the second edition of the CCI-Department of Laws, PU National Moot Court Competition, 2024. This flagship event has been devised with the aim to create an opportunity for learning the development of jurisprudence on emerging trends in competition law, besides armouring the upcoming generations of the legal fraternity with research and oratory skills.

The Moot Proposition of the Competition will revolve around Competition Law. In the past, Department of Laws, Panjab University has successfully conducted the first edition of the CCI-Department of Laws, PU National Moot Court Competition in 2022, which witnessed significant participation of law students from all over India.
